Taoyuan Airport Late Night Arrival: What Still Runs After Dark
Last verified 25 Oct 2026
Quick answer
- The last Airport MRT Express to Taipei leaves at 22:58 (Terminal 1) or 22:55 (Terminal 2). The last Commuter train leaves at 23:37 or 23:35.
- Those are train departure times, not landing times. You still need to clear immigration and collect bags, so if your flight lands close to these times, have the queue taxi as your backup.
- Airport queue taxis run 24 hours. The fare follows the meter, and expressway tolls are extra. The airport also lists a shared taxi service from 00:00 to 06:00.
- The airport bus page lists no operating hours. Call the operator before counting on a night bus.
- Official sources: Airport MRT page, airport taxi page, Taoyuan Metro timetable.
Landing late: what still runs at each hour
The times below are when the last train leaves the airport station, not when your plane lands. Allow time for immigration, baggage and the walk to the MRT level. The airport gives no figure for that, so do not assume one. For the entry steps, see the Taiwan arrival card guide.
| When you reach the MRT platform | What still runs to Taipei | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Before 22:55 (T2) or 22:58 (T1) | Express (39 min) or Commuter (53 min) | Fare NT$160 to Taipei Main Station |
| 22:55/22:58 to 23:35/23:37 | Commuter only (53 min) | Express has finished for the night |
| After 23:35 (T2) or 23:37 (T1) | No MRT to Taipei | Queue taxi, 24 hours |
| 00:00 to 06:00 | Queue taxi or shared taxi | Both listed by the airport |
| Before 05:55 (T2) or 05:58 (T1) | No MRT yet | First Express to Taipei is 05:55 or 05:58 |
Terminal 1 times are for station A12 and Terminal 2 times for station A13. The airport page says Taoyuan Metro’s published timetable prevails if anything changes, so check the Taoyuan Metro timetable before you fly.
Airport MRT: last and first trains to Taipei
| Train | Terminal 1 (A12) | Terminal 2 (A13) |
|---|---|---|
| Express, first | 05:58 | 05:55 |
| Express, last | 22:58 | 22:55 |
| Commuter, first | 06:07 | 06:04 |
| Commuter, last | 23:37 | 23:35 |
Express trains stop only at A1 Taipei Main, A3, A8 and the two airport stations. Commuter trains stop at every station. The airport says a train leaves about every 7.5 minutes, with Express and Commuter alternating. Time to Taipei Main Station is 39 minutes by Express and 53 minutes by Commuter, and the fare is NT$160 on both.
Both airport stations are on level B2. At Terminal 1 you take an escalator down, and at Terminal 2 an escalator or elevator. The full ride, payment and bus comparison is in our Taoyuan Airport to Taipei guide.
Taxi
The airport states that its queue taxis run 24 hours a day. This is the sure option after the last train.
- Where: Terminal 1 at Gate 12 on the west side of the 1F arrivals hall. Terminal 2 on the lane opposite Gate 26, also on the west side of the 1F arrivals hall.
- How the fare is calculated: by the meter reading. Expressway tolls are charged on top.
- Trips outside the airport area: the airport says taxis can go anywhere in Taiwan at standard rates.
- Phone: Terminal 1 service centre 03-383-4499. Terminal 2 service centre 03-398-2022.
The airport page gives no fixed fare to Taipei and does not mention a night surcharge, so this guide gives no price. Ask the driver to use the meter. If you have a hotel address in Chinese, show it on your phone.
Shared taxi, 00:00 to 06:00
The airport lists a taxi sharing service that runs every day from 00:00 to 06:00. Fare and pickup details are only in a leaflet linked from the airport taxi page. Read it there before you rely on it.
Buses
The airport bus page lists Kuo-Kuang routes 1819 and 1819B to Taipei, with ride times of 55 minutes and 70 to 80 minutes. It also lists 1840, 1841 and 1842 to Songshan Airport and 1843 to Nangang Exhibition Center, plus Ta-You routes 1960, 1961 and 1961A. Boarding is at the B1 coach area at Terminal 1 and the 1F coach area at Terminal 2.
The page shows no first or last departures and no fares. It does not say whether any route runs overnight. Do not plan a late arrival around a bus unless the operator confirms it. Kuo-Kuang’s head office number on the airport page is 0800-010-138. The page also links live bus tracking for each route.
Food and shops
The airport’s service directory lists a 7-Eleven open 00:00 to 24:00, with three locations. It does not say in which terminal or on which level, so ask at an information counter after you arrive. Other outlets in the directory list their own, shorter hours, so do not count on a hot meal.
Common mistakes
- Using the landing time as the deadline. The last train is a departure time. Immigration and baggage come first.
- Assuming the last Express is the last train. The Express stops at 22:55 or 22:58. A Commuter train still runs after it, but it is slower.
- Counting on a night bus. No hours are published on the airport bus page.
- Expecting a fixed taxi price. The airport states metered fares with tolls extra. Nothing more is published.
- Not checking for disruptions. Service can change, and Taoyuan Metro’s timetable prevails over the airport page. Check it on the day.
If this is your first trip, the first-time-in-Taiwan guide covers the other arrival basics. Rules and timetables change, so check the official Airport MRT page before you fly.
